NOTE.—The Census Bureau collects and publishes monthly, quarterly, and annual statistics in processed form for numerous industries and commodities under the general title Facts for industry. Summaries of most of these statistics are published later in Survey of current business issued each month by the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce. The Facts for industry releases are published with the objective of making available to manufacturers, trade groups and other users of statistical data, current figures that are useful to them in their operations and planning. Molt of the publications can be used by manufacturers to gauge their position in relation to the experience of the industry as a whole with respect to production, shipments, orders, or inventories. The publications also present an accurate picture Of the trends in the various industries over a period of time. Most of these publications, are based on surveys conducted by the Bureau of the Census as part of its current industrial statistics program: others are based on War Production Board surveys, some of which were conducted jointly with the Bureau of the Census or other Federal agencies.
