NOTE.—These maps show in color, to a scale of 1: 250.000. the Federal aid and State highways, with status and improvement, principal connecting roads, railroads, airways and airports, canals and navigable channels—in short, all the media of organized transportation. They also show the boundaries or locations of National and State forests and parks. Indian reservations, military and naval reservations and recreational areas with the roads leading to them. Special maps to a larger scale (1:125.000) printed as inserts on the regular sheets, where practicable, show in better detail the transportation routes within the larger metropolitan areas. The sheets are uniform in size 26x36 inches, oriented with the longer dimension east and west. Maps in this series of more than half the States have been published and others are in course of preparation. Revised editions are prepared and published from time to time.
